After a fellowship in Sports Medicine and Foot and Ankle surgery in Phoenix, Arizona, he returned to practice in his hometown of Danville in 2000. He has been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2002.
Dr. Tarter has been with DOSM and served this region his entire career. His practice is now concentrated in total joint replacement, with specialized emphasis on robotic total knees, computer navigation and anterior hip replacement. He also has an interest in both conservative and operative care of general orthopedic conditions including fracture care and hand surgery.
He has been married to his wife Shannon for over 30 years and they have two married sons.
Dr. Charles C. Key is from Williamsburg, KY. He graduated valedictorian from Williamsburg High School in 1998 and graduated summa cum laude from the University of the Cumberlands in 2002.

He graduated with high honors from University of Kentucky College of Medicine in 2007. He was commissioned into the US Army and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia in 2012. He was then deployed to Afghanistan as an orthopedic surgeon in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
After deployment, Dr. Key returned to Kentucky at Fort Knox where he served as the chief of Orthopedics and Surgery at Ireland Army Hospital. He was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2014. Dr. Key performs many general orthopedic procedures including shoulder/knee replacement, arthroscopic shoulder/knee surgery, shoulder reconstruction, fracture care, and hand surgery.
He currently lives with his wife and daughter in Danville.

Dr. D. Jeffrey Covell was born in Frederick, Maryland. He attended Kansas State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science and Industry in 2004. He studied at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health and earned a master’s degree in 2006. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kentucky School of Medicine in 2010. Afterwards, he completed an internship and a residency in orthopaedic surgery at The University of Kentucky Medical Center (2015).
Dr. Covell completed fellowship training at the OrthoCarolina Foot and Ankle Institute in Charlotte, NC in 2016. He is board eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery for 2017.
His primary area of concentration is in foot and ankle surgery with special interests in total ankle replacement, trauma, post-traumatic arthritic joint reconstruction and fusion, complex congenital or acquired foot deformity, Charcot reconstruction, tendon disorders, bunion and hammer toe correction, arthroscopy and sports related injuries.
He is married and has one son.

Dr. R. Zackary Unger is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who completed fellowship training in sports medicine. He grew up on his family farm near Wabash, IN. After high school, Dr. Unger played collegiate golf at Morehead State University where he earned Summa Cum Laude Honors with focus in Chemistry and Biology. He has completed his medical and orthopaedic training at the University of Kentucky where he gained extensive training dealing with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr. Unger has published several papers, a book chapter, and presented locally, nationally, and internationally. His practice has a focus in sports medicine, but he also provides general orthopaedic care including trauma and fracture management, total joint replacement, hand procedures, as well as various nonoperative treatment options.
During residency and fellowship training, Dr. Unger served as an assistant team physician for the University of Kentucky, working closely with UK Football and UK Men’s Basketball teams. He has provided care for athletes of multiple sports teams at the collegiate and high school level. Additionally, Dr. Unger has treated various professional athletes including those in the MLB, NFL, XFL, PGA, and WWE.
His invaluable experience assessing athletes on playing fields, in training rooms, and in the UK Sports Medicine Clinic has prepared him to provide the same high level of care to our community. Dr. Unger is the head team physician and team surgeon for Centre College and Campbellsville University Harrodsburg. He also serves young athletes in our region working closely with area high schools.
Dr. Unger resides in Danville with his wife and three children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, being outdoors, and watching a variety of sports and movies.

Ashley Sachs, a Lexington, Kentucky native, has built her career on a strong foundation of education, experience, and a passion for patient care. She began her academic journey at the University of Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 2009. After a few years of working with animals, Ashley decided to shift her focus to human healthcare. she played multiple sports, specifically basketball and tennis. She served our great country in the Kentucky Army National Guard from 2009 until 2019 while she obtained her Bachelor’s degree of Science in Education/Kinesiology from the University of Kentucky in May 2016.
Sarah has been practicing at DOSM PT since 2018 while she enjoys treating a variety of conditions and orthopedic rehabilitation with a passion for manual therapy interventions. She progressed
her training with instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) by obtaining her FMT Blades and FMT Blades Advanced certifications from Rocktape. Sarah is passionate about sports medicine and helping others regain their quality of life.
While not in the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family at their residence in Hustonville, KY taking care of their mini farm, spending time outdoors, going on adventures, watching and playing a variety of sports and dirt track racing.
